Do you offer health insurance?

Due to the high cost to both Nursing Ventures Inc. and it's employee's we do not offer health insurance benefits. It has been and will always be our goal to be the highest paying staffing company that exists. Due to the temporary nature of our work as per diem and travel nurses it makes more sense to purchase an individual plan that will cover you no matter where you are or who you work for. Generally speaking Nursing Ventures is against anything that will cut into your pay. We decided that our nurse professionals can manage their own money and benefits that works best for their individual circumstances. We do have a health insurance consultant that specializes in obtaining individual health insurance policies. Please visit our "health insurance information" page.

Do you pay or arrange for housing on my travel assignment?

No. This and incredible cost that will drastically reduce your hourly rate. With our experience and knowledge of the travel nurse industry this is THE tool traditional staffing companies will use as their number one selling point, it is also their biggest opportunity to take huge amounts of the money you earn and keep it as profit. We will admit that working for Nursing Ventures Inc. is NOT for everyone. In order to remain the highest paying staffing company we require our nursing professionals to use a little "elbow grease" in many aspects. This includes searching for and finding their own living arrangements for any travel assignment. We take pride in the fact that we are not playing the games that the traditional staffing companies are. With tough financial times ahead for our national economy, the most important thing we can do for our professionals is to not eat up 30-50% of their pay by offering the warm fuzzy's of "free private housing" - "unlimited referral bonuses" - "completion bonuses" etc. The most important benefit that Nursing Ventures offers to you is the ability to make more money with us than with any other staffing company, period! The ability to earn a good living and let your money work for you instead of you working for money is our hope for all.

Are Nursing Ventures employees independent contractors?

Absolutely not for many reasons. There are many less than reputable "mom and pop" staffing companies out there who pay their employees as independent contractors or "10-99". With a little research into IRS tax law it is obvious that anyone working for a staffing company as a nursing professional will be considered an employee by the IRS. We know that this is common practice for many small staffing companies but conducting business in this way increases financial AND legal liability for everyone involved; the staffing company, the "independent contractor" and the hospital that you are sent to work at. If you are paid as an independent contractor you are receiving money that has not been taxed and you will end up paying more taxes come tax time than if you were paid as an employee who receives a W2 at the end of the year. Every Nursing Ventures Professional is classified as an employee and is given a W2 at the end of the year. Nursing Ventures Inc. abides by ALL applicable Federal and State employment laws. Please read a news release we recently received:

"House Bill Aims To Stop Employee Misclassification Legislation aimed at stopping employers from improperly classifying employees as independent contractors was introduced last month in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Employee Misclassification Prevention Act (HR 6111) would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to clarify that misclassification is a prohibited act and to allow for harsher penalties such as liquidated damages for affected workers. It would also require employers to keep records on workers' employment or independent contractor classification and notify workers of their classification and their right to challenge it. Finally, the bill would allow the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service to share information on cases where employers misclassify workers and would mandate that DOL perform targeted audits focusing on employers in industries in which employees are frequently misclassified. Earlier this year, the Independent Contractor Proper Classification Act was introduced in the Senate. The bill would allow the IRS to create new criteria for determining whether workers are employees and make it harder for employers to classify workers as independent contractors. Several states are also stepping up efforts to identify and fine businesses that misclassify their workers as independent contractors" June 2008

Do you hire new grads?

Typically we do not hire "new grads". This term usually applies to new graduates of registered nursing programs who have less than one year experience. Most hospitals do not take RN's who do not have at least one year of experience. There are few exceptions to this standard based on the need or policies of the hospitals that has posted an open assignment. Most of Nursing Ventures hospital clients require ALL caregivers to have one year of experience in an acute care facility within the last 12 months. For Critical Care Transport most of the RN's we place have MANY years experience in critical care settings.

Do you offer daily, weekly, or pay advances?

We do not offer daily, weekly, or pay advances at this time. Our paydays are every other Friday unless payday falls on a holiday, in that case we would pay on the last business day preceding the holiday. Overtime is paid at time and a half the regular hourly rate as per Federal and State wage and hour laws. There are some client facilities that require special approval before an overtime shift is granted. If an employee works over 40 hours at multiple facilities overtime will still be paid at time and a half.
